Our KIS story
KIS was created by us – Kate and Simon Marciniak. We are a pair of architects joined by love for each other and a passion for design. After working for some time in one of the best European architectural companies we were leading our own practice, when one day we realized we needed a change of perspective.
We found ourselves looking for garden furniture but couldn’t find anything that would fit our needs in terms of design, functionality and in the same time handle the Central European climate. So we’ve had no other choice but to design it ourselves. We’ve already had a small carpentry workshop in the garage behind the house where we would experiment with different kinds of wood. It was there where the MOOD prototype came to life. We moved it to our garden and invited friends over. They loved it – and encouraged by their enthusiasm we decided to continue the project. And so in almost no time and without thinking twice we became producers of simple, modern yet exclusive garden furniture.
Soon we were joined by members of our families who believed in KIS and changed it with us into a truly FAMILY run business. All of them share their talent and skills with us drawing on almost a hundred years of carpentry tradition running in our family.
Our biggest passion is creating iconic pieces, designed to lure you outside and appreciate nature.
In times when true craft struggles and most companies move their production to Asia, we dream to remain as we are – a small manufacture combining old traditions with innovation and modern design. We’re not dreaming of selling infinite amount of furniture but make just enough for those who’ll appreciate and welcome it in their houses.
We are not a typical furniture manufacturer. Above all we are a design house – a place where artists, craft enthusiasts, visionaries and constructors work together in unison. In KIS were joining together three generations and it makes us proud and happy to see how they all work together, feeling fulfilled and appreciated.
Our collections are unique and timeless and we never cease to look for new cooperation, new artists and designers, new solutions.
